If you're looking for effective weight loss, check out some of the common misconceptions and dieting myths.
It isn't easy losing weight, especially when celebrity magazines are crammed with photos of skinny film stars, looking impossibly thin. But the reality is their careers are dedicated to how they look. For most of us, we have to fit healthy weight loss programmes and exercise plans around busy schedules and the demands of work and home life. But it is achievable to incorporate a healthy weight loss plan into your day-to-day routine by simply changing your diet and buying a good pair of walking shoes. Don't be tempted to follow the famous with unrealistic diets that aren't necessarily healthy weight loss programmes and certainly aren't sustainable for the average person with everyday demands (and budgets).
Fat-Free, Fun-Free and Unhealthy Weight Loss
Gwyneth Paltrow's approach to her weight is a case in point that's been picked up in the press. Paltrow shares a personal trainer with Madonna - and the pair certainly keep their super fit physiques by dedicating themselves to drastic fitness regimes. It's perhaps the unrealistic expectation of being super fit and slim that has prompted her to deal with her post-festive indulgence this year with an extreme detox rather than healthy weight loss. But many nutritionists say we shouldn't take health tips from celebrities. When celebs tell us how to stay slim (just like them) we may be tempted to listen. But according to the column in the Times, Sense About Science, celebrities often don't know what they're talking about when it comes to healthy weight loss or any kind of science associated with well being. Tom Cruise for example has criticised psychiatry as being a 'Nazi science' - a view few would agree with.
Healthy Weight Loss? Avoid the Celebrity Diets
Paltrow has been criticised for abandoning a healthy weight loss plan by embarking on a strict detox to lose a few pounds. She is eliminating gluten, meat, shellfish, processed foods, fatty nuts, potatoes, sugar, caffeine, fizzy drinks, alcohol and dairy, inspiring the headline, 'Gwyneth fills up on hot air'. It isn't a healthy weight loss diet - in fact reports say it is so dangerous, her doctor has advised against it. More doctors are coming forward to warn about celebrity diets and the need to opt for a healthy weight loss regime. Some of the worst examples of 2008 are the high protein diet of former tennis star Monica Seles that put her at increased risk of chronic disease. Also stars who eat junk food but do a lot of exercise may keep off the pounds but are damaging their health, as well as risking piling on the pounds if they stop their vigorous exercise. Yo-yo dieting by celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey are also examples of how diets simply don't work - proper healthy weight loss is about how you choose to live your life with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
