Fitness Programme - Running for your Life
Posted 19 February 2009

When it comes to devising a fitness programme, all you need is a pair of good running shoes.

Fitness programmes can be simple affairs. They needn't be about taking on extreme routines or learning how to use difficult equipment. In fact, all you need for an effective fitness programme is some expert advice, motivation and a pair of good walking shoes or trainers. The proliferation of different fitness programmes can make many of us unsure, confused and indecisive about the best exercise to take. And now fitness coaches are speaking out against the various fitness programme fads - many of which are celebrity led.

Fitness Programme - Dangerous DVDs

A fitness programme should always be devised around your abilities, gradually building up stamina and strength. Launching yourself into a fitness programme at full throttle with little or no fitness, can be dangerous and damaging. It's like saying you'll run the marathon in a week's time without doing any training. But there are countless fitness programmes that some fitness coaches believe not only don't do what they promise, but could even be dangerous. Speaking in a leading tabloid, fitness coach Alan Lynn spoke out saying those who are unfit or looking to lose weight, would be better off going for a walk than watching most celebrity fitness DVDs.

Walking - The Effective Fitness Programme

The fitness coach, who has trained Olympic swimmers, says that many of the celebrity DVDs are impractical, and says some of the fitness programmes touted simply don't work, accusing some celebrities as being 'fitness phoneys'. Undertaking a fitness programme using a fitness DVD is considered dangerous because the instructor simply can't tell the user when or if they're doing something wrong. Also, many such fitness programmes demand good co-ordination and balance to start with, and don't develop fitness levels or make long-term progress. A walking programme that builds basic fitness, followed by a running fitness programme for long-term fitness is more effective.

Effective Fitness Programme - Keep Motivated

DVDs can also become stale and boring, and Mr Lynn says anyone looking to take on a fitness programme should consider a walking or running fitness programme with a friend as motivation and fun are key in keeping a fitness programme going.
