Healthy eating plan for longevity
Posted 11 March 2009

A healthy eating plan could be the route to a longer, healthier life.

Scientists, researchers and nutritionists have been undertaking research into the impact of being overweight for years. And the recent healthy living initiative by the government is drawing on more experts and specialists in the field to find ways of convincing more people to embrace a healthy eating plan and lifestyle. A healthy eating plan is crucial for those who are overweight - whether it is for health reasons or vanity that motivates you, a health eating plan can ensure that you don't just look and feel better, you'll be more likely to live longer.

Healthy Eating Plan - The Insulin Theory

Research by American scientists examined how being overweight decreases lifespan because of higher blood insulin levels. A healthy eating plan is a way of losing excess weight and controlling insulin levels. The study on mice revealed that by reducing insulin signals to the brain, the lifespan of the mice increased. It's already known that being overweight increases the likelihood of cancer, stroke and heart disease. The research backs up that those over their official recommended body weight should be considering a healthy eating plan. Being a healthy weight and adopting a healthy lifestyle, such as sticking to a healthy eating plan, reduces insulin levels in humans.

Healthy Eating Plan Combined with Exercise

It's common sense that a healthy eating plan, combined with plenty of exercise will help keep you healthy. But there are plenty of scientific findings to back up this common sense. A healthy eating plan will help control insulin levels as insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels in the body. Although the researchers aim in America was to possibly devise new drugs, the message to nutritionists and dieters is to adopt a healthy eating plan and lose excess weight. The scientist behind the study, Dr Morris White said in a press release that the simplest way to regulate insulin is to simply adopt healthy living - a healthy eating plan can help those who struggle with their diet. Dr White said: "Our findings put a mechanism behind what your mother told when you were growing up - eat a good diet and exercise, and it will keep you healthy." Insulin regulation is also a major factor in diabetes, and the research team are also investigating links between high insulin levels, obesity and dementia. There are suggestions that insulin may play a role in the aging process.
