Weight Loss Plea - The Government Warning
Posted 10 February 2009

Weight loss is an increasing priority on the government's agenda as the cost of obesity hits home.

Weight loss has become a crucial health issue in the UK. Weight loss is on the public health agenda as the government hopes to raise the importance of weight loss to stem rising obesity rates in the country. A campaign, including television adverts, is warning that too much body fat increases the risks of types of cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Weight loss is crucial - overweight people are estimated to cost the British taxpayer £50bn by 2050.

Weight Loss - Top Priority

Fad diets aren't the solution. The key to successful weight loss is a change in lifestyle. As well as eating healthily, more exercise is an important factor to ensure we live a longer, healthier life. Weight loss is often temporarily successful, but once diets are over, the dieter tends to pile the weight back on. Yo-yo weight is a common problem for those experiencing weight loss as a result of a diet or eating plan. It's crucial that those seeking weight loss don't just commit to fad, temporary diets but change their whole approach to healthy eating and exercise.

Weight Loss Campaign - Raising Awareness

The government's three-year campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of too much body fat is an attempt to stop the country 'sleepwalking' into an obesity crisis. Weight loss is not just about looking good in a bikini, it's a major health concern. Weight loss is being forced up the health agenda as the Chief Medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson warns that obesity and excess weight is becoming the norm. It's a trend he has dubbed as 'our obesogenic society'. The long-term commitment to weight loss by changing lifestyle factors is underlined by the scary prediction that 90% of children today are expected to be overweight by 2050. The need to achieve long-term weight loss is highlighted by the serious health consequences of dangerous amounts of fat in our bodies.

Unaware of Obesity Health Risks

When it comes to weight loss, we often need expert help and guidance to achieve successful results. Nutritionists have told the press that it's increasingly difficult to stay slim in the modern world. And it's estimated just 6% of people in the UK are aware of the health risks of being obese or overweight. More people are hoped to embrace weight loss as a long term goal and lifestyle change as a result of the campaign.
