Map your route

The perfect combination of saving money, being green and getting your steps up is right at your fingertips.

Why waste money on transport when you can just walk. One of the things we often don’t realise (especially in London) is that many places are closer than they appear and it could take you less time just to walk as opposed to getting on transport or in the car. Naturally you can also cycle if the mood takes you, just be sure to either put your Bug in your sock, or add your steps later.

Google maps is a great way to find out how to get to where you want to go. Not only will it show you the route, it will give detailed instructions and an approximate walking time, so you can plan accordingly.

Remember to carry your dress shoes in a bag and to wear your comfy trainers.

You’ll arrive at your destination refreshed from a nice walk in the fresh air, with a few extra coins in your pocket to boot!

Fun walking/cycling facts from the BBC:

  • If the four million Britons who drive four miles to work every day cycled instead, between them they would save a million tonnes of CO2 a year

  • If all commuters left the car at home one day a week for the next year, we would save enough miles to travel to the moon and back 35,000 times

  • Getting rid of your car altogether can wipe three tonnes off your emissions - over three times the annual emissions of the average citizen of Swaziland

  • Manufacturing a car emits five tonnes of CO2 - more than the average Brit's direct emissions of CO2 in a year
