Gary Glazerman has had great success with his Fitbug, dropping from 106 kilos to just under 90. He now fits into trousers four inches smaller in the waist, shirts that are now two inches smaller round the neck and tops that are merely large as opposed to XXL. He is feeling happier and healthier.
Fitbug: How did you find out about Fitbug?
Gary: My insurance company pointed the way to Fitbug.
Fitbug: What made you join?
Gary: I liked the fact that Fitbug offered a pre-emptive and proactive way of monitoring health.
Fitbug: What did you hope to accomplish?
Gary: I was primarily looking for improvements in general health; specifically losing weight and taking control of diet while reducing cholesterol and blood pressure. All of which I have achieved. I started with gentle walking. My wife and I would be walking and she would be chatting and then get cross with me when I didn’t answer, I had to tell her I could either walk or talk. Now she needs to run to keep up with me.
Fitbug: What is your goal?
Gary: I wanted to try and get to my BMI recommendation, but that’s around 12.5 stone, and I haven’t been that weight since I was 13 or 14. However, my goal was to come down from 106 kilo to somewhere close to 85. I’m currently just below 90. Basically, Fitbug has helped me lose the best part of 16 kilos so far.
Fitbug: What have you gained??
Gary: A sense of well being - I feel much more able to take on physical challenges now. I cycle, which I had never done before, and I just feel so much better in myself.
Fitbug: What was most helpful?
Gary: I think the goal setting capability of Fitbug is most helpful. My wife and I are quite competitive, and we feel guilty if we don’t make our steps. So despite the fact that when we were on vacation, the weather in St. Louis was really hot, we were still getting our steps. Once you get in habit of doing it, it becomes a lifestyle change, and that’s what drives us and continues to drive us.
Fitbug: How has your life changed?
Gary: I’m feeling so much better about myself and from a health prospective, it has been proven medically that I’m healthier and that makes me feel good, especially knowing that there’s a new grandchild in the future. Even at 55, I can hack it as a young granddad...
The only downside is every year I’m Santa for work, and this year I’m going to have to put two pillows down my front, it’s going to be hot, but it’s a small price to pay.
Fitbug: What’s your advice to other Fibug members?
Gary:If you’ve never exercised before don’t be afraid to take the Fitbug challenge. After a month you’ll see results and I think it gets better from there on.
