August 2008 Update - Mt. Kilimanjaro- conquered!
This month’s Member of the Month, Dr. Jessica Anderson, works in engineering and transport planning and is planning a huge transport event this summer. She, along with her husband, will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in July. And while they have climbed mountains in Scotland and the Swiss Alps she wanted to be prepared for her ’first serious mountain.’

Before...
Fitbug: How did you find out about Fitbug?
Jessica: My sister was telling me about Fitbug at Christmas and I thought it would work for me and that’s how I got on board.
Fitbug: What was your motivation?
Jessica: The Killy climb. It’s something my husband and I thought about doing for a few years. We want to do it while relatively young and fit-ish, and while there’s a glacier on top.
Fitbug: What’s your goal?
Jessica: I started at 75kg and wanted to get down to 65 kg. I have two kgs more to go. I also measured my waist, and have since been monitoring my waist measurements to make sure I'm not at risk for diabetes.
Fitbug: How much have you lost?
Jessica: I’ve lost 8kg’s and 10cm from my waist since joining at Christmas.
Fitbug: What have you gained?
Jessica: A better work/life balance, because now I make time for exercise. I can fit into clothes I haven’t worn for a couple of years - it’s like a whole new wardrobe. And I feel good, and hope I’m inspiring others to do the same.
Fitbug: Who/what has been most helpful?
Jessica: It’s really a combo of measuring goals and trying to achieve them, rather than being vague about how much you need to lose. Another thing that is very helpful is that I bought a rowing machine and now I row every morning. I’m averaging about 17900 steps per day.
Fitbug: Why do you think it works?
Jessica: It’s a constant reminder. And logging the food is very enlightening, it really gets you thinking about everything you eat and drink, as well as portion size and getting the balance of foods right.
Fitbug: What do you enjoy most?
Jessica: Being able to ride horses - I was getting too heavy. Getting into smaller clothes. Hearing people say, "Gosh you look well."
Fitbug: How do you feel?
Jessica: Really good! I’m very pleased with myself.
Fitbug: What are you most proud of?
Jessica: Sticking to it, and taking the time to do it properly and seriously. I see the results!
Fitbug: What’s your advice to other FB members?
Jessica: Keep going and don’t give up. It doesn’t matter if you have the odd one or two days where don’t hit your targets - in long run it works!

After!
