After the madness of my first week at Fitbug, I escaped to the beautiful Suffolk countryside for a weekend meditation retreat at Vajrasana, a Buddhist centre.

After the madness of my first week at Fitbug, I escaped to the beautiful Suffolk countryside for a weekend meditation retreat at Vajrasana, a Buddhist centre.

At first, I was regretting my decision to go. Up at 6.30am on a weekend to meditate? That was really stepping outside of my comfort zone.

I was also worried that I wouldn’t be adding to my step goal if I was sitting around on my bum all day.

As luck would have it, there were plenty of lovely walks in the surrounding area, which included fields swaying with wheat sheaves as well as ponds delicately layered with lily pads.

Anyone who feels trammelled by city life should really take a few days out and discover what life is like without the constant background noise of traffic.

Back in London on the Monday, I was feeling fully energised. Which was lucky as I joined Channel 4 for a Power Walking session with the wonderful personal trainer Ricardo Walker (And yes, that is his real name!)

Next day, my thighs were feeling the benefits - well, that’s what I call the protest of screaming muscles.

But no rest for the wicked. We had an office outing to try Nordic Walking on Primrose Hill. This is great fun, even though you get people sniggering at you. I just grinned back, proud to be one of life’s eccentrics as I strode along with my electric blue Nordic Walking poles.

Into my second week and I’m getting seriously competitive. I uploaded my stats and was cheered that I was now in eighth position in Division 9. Watch out - here I come!

And so endeth my second week. I’m getting into the swing of things. Any suggestions on what I should do to keep motivated?
