CALF RAISES

Why do calf raises?: Calf exercises help give your legs definition while improving balance and strengthening your ankles.

How to: Position a small stall, step or table a few inches away from a wall. Stand with the balls of your feet on the step facing the wall and place your hands on the wall for balance. Slowly push your heels down to below the edge of the step and push yourself up onto your toes then repeat.

How many: Start by aiming for two sets of 15. After a short time, you should be able to progress to three sets.

Safety Tip: Do not lock your knees or clench your bottom or you will expose yourself to risks of an injury.

Alternative: If you do not have a suitable block to stand on and your balance is good you can use a bottom stair to perform your calf raises.
